Can I start trading before SIRET number arrives?

If I complete the online registration as an auto-entrepreneur today can I do some work this week and invoice for it, i.e. before my SIRET number arrives? I note from the form that you seem to be able to put a start date for the business before the registration date so this seems to imply it would be OK?
