Change from commercant to profession liberale?

Sorry not to come back to you on my previous question. As a result of your reply, I sent a letter to RSI (no response, as usual) and then went down to Perpignan to see them. The whole thing is a bigger mess than I anticpated so I have started a new question.

When I signed up in January, 2012, I made a big mistake in choosing my category. Because I was teching English on the Internet, I decided I should be in the portails Internet category. I now realise that I should have just put myself into 85.59, the English teaching category. So as a result of this mistake, I have been making payments for the last 17 months as a commercant, not as a prof liberale. I have paid about 1000 euros more in charges than I could have. I am particularly concerned that my pension payments have gone into a different caisse, not CIPAV where I have been making payments for more than 30 years. The person at RSI has advised me to write a letter to the commission recours aimable at Montpellier. Obviously I will do this.

But what else should I do on the meantime? Can I just shut down this present activity and redeclare myself as a 85.59 with effect from 1 July? It sticks in my throat to be paying 60 euros a month extra just because I made a mistake on a form. Also, what are the onsequences of paying into the commercant caisse de retraite? Am I losing out compared with paying the same money into CIPAV?
