Do I qualify for the auto-entrepreneur tax system?

We are a British couple who moved to France in April 2014 via a house swap. The agreement has been extended until October 2015 and we think we would like to stay longer. At present, we still pay all our tax in the UK. We don’t have any French household bills (accept mobile phone) or bank accounts. We both work from home and are self-employed. I am a bookbinder and my husband is a computer programmer. We also have rental income from the UK.

We would like to register myself only as my husband’s affairs are more complicated as he has a limited company in the UK. We are keen to make sure that we will only be taxed for money earned under the business registered for auto-entrepreneur.

  1. Will they take into account other income that I have, which is taxed in the UK, e.g. rental income. Are the two systems completely separate?
  2. Will they take into account my husband’s income, which is taxed in England (rental income and income from his limited company)?
  3. Will I need a French bank account?
  4. My income is all from English / American clients. Can I accept Pound Sterling from them and then pay myself to a French bank account?
  5. We think it will be an Artisan application as I am a bookbinder working on one-off commissions. Would you be able to do the application for us?
  6. Should we move back to England in a year what would be the repercussions?
  7. Finally, can we apply for top-up insurance?
