Is free shipping acceptable within accounting rules?
I am trying to navigate the different costs of shipping small parcels across Europe and worldwide. Ideally, I would like to have a standard shipping rate, which is reasonably acceptable to customers spending approximately €120. However, some of the quotes I am getting for shipping are around €30, which is prohibitive for some potential customers.
Is it therefore acceptable to sell my product with free shipping, and in my accounting, I would have variable invoices for shipping charges, at a cost to my business, and not passed on to the customer.
In this case, as I have a TVA number, I would pay the treasury the TVA collected on the item sold, but not on the shipping (which is not paid by the customer), and I would deduct the TVA I have paid for the shipment, from the sum I owe the treasure on the goods sold to non business customers.
