Moving to France, auto-entrepreneur contracted by US LLC
Bonjour Valerie,
Apologies for the long question, please let me know if a direct email or your advice call service is a better venue.
I am a US citizen and have received an Entrepreneur / Profession Liberal visa (after waiting 7 months for it…). I arrive in Paris in just a few weeks!
I currently operate a US limited company through which I provide software development services. I am paid a combination of salary and dividends/withdrawals. My currently plan is to continue to bill my clients through the US company, set up as an auto-entrepreneur in France, and have my US company pay the French company in lieu of my salary. As such I will continue to receive dividends but no salary from the US company. I will also find and engage additional clients through the French company, which will net less than the 70KE annual AE limit.
I have a few questions which are variations on others I have seen here -
- Is this legal and your recommended way to structure the business?
- Will I be taxed in France on the dividend income from the US company or only in the US? And I assume the business corporate income would remain taxed only in the US?
- Is it allowed to manage the US company while resident in France or would I need to bring on a domestic manager?
- I will be setting up the Auto-Entrepreneur business in France (interested in your services!) shortly after arriving - is there a deadline for having that business registered? Do I need an established personal address before registering? I read somewhere that it needed to be within 15 days of arrival in France, but that sounds insane.
- Can you recommend an English-speaking French accountant with experience dealing with foreign businesses? And would you recommend I engage an accountant now or at tax time?
- I want to make sure I am registered correctly as a French resident on my Visa de Long-Sejour as well (registering with OFI, registering the business, opening personal/business bank accounts, registering at the address of the flat I am renting, etc), do you know anyone who provides relocation advice for expats?
Thank you for your time and for this wonderful wealth of information, it is a gem in the haystack of the internet!
Merci bien d’avance!
