Quotation requirement for auto-entrepreneurs in France

I have read that, as an auto-entrepreneur, I am required to send quotations/cost estimates for services above 1.500EUR.
Is this correct?
I have put together quotations for French clients before and feel confident in doing so but often additional work comes out of a continuous client relationship and there maybe only an email exchange which details the assignment. Nothing more formal.
I would like to understand what the formal requirements are if there are any.
Hope this is clear, my questions sounds a little vague to my own ears.
