My wife wants to operate a business that has multiple facets. We are English intending to live and work in France with some work in the UK for my Wife’s activities.

  • Create pictures and prints of the pictures to sell at events, markets, shows and on line.
  • To create and sell craft items, refurbished brocante. Sold as above.
  • To write articles for English publications and her own book.
  • Possibly teach art in private classes.
  • Possibly run small art holiday breaks.  Not accommodation just the art.

What regime/regimes does she need to register for? The business turnover be below 32,000 euros.

  1. What taxes and social charges would she pay in France?
  2. I understand that artists register as artist libre and then progress to Maison Des Artistes. Is she exempt tax and charges up to 8,000 euros?
  3. Will some activities fall under micro-enterprise?
  4. Are taxes and social charges paid against income monthly or quarterly in arrears?
  5. Does she have to do any courses?
  6. She has an English university degree in creative art and English and a teaching qualification. Is she able to teach?
  7. We want the most efficient tax/social charges regime as the business needs to minimise outgoings at the start so it can grow and provide personal income and pay expenses?
  8. Would you be able to set my Wife up with the required regimes?
