Set up as an auto-entrepreneur before moving to France?

  1. I have owned a house in France since 2006. It is the only house I own as I​ ​rent in the UK. Does this make it my main residence as it is the only house​ ​I own?
  2. It has always been my intention to retire to France in a few years​ ​time and set up as an auto-entrepreneur. However, after the Brexit result I​ ​am planning to move out sooner - approximately July 2018 before the possible end of​ ​free movement. Can I set up as an auto-entrepreneur​ ​earlier than July 2018?
  3. I would be living in the UK with my main income from​ ​the UK but running a gite in France. I’m hoping to ensure that I​ ​am in the system for medical cover and will only have to pay a top up once I​ ​move there in July 2018?
  4. My main concern is that I will not be able to afford complete medical cover​ ​when I move but can only afford the top-up. With that in mind I have to have​ ​paid into the system. Am I able to do this whilst still living in the UK until July 2018?
  5. Is there a minimum amount of tax that has to be paid before I will be​ ​entitled to medical cover?
