Succursale as secondary business?

I have a small organic farm with my wife as conjoint collabatrice and we make our social contributions through the MSA. I want to start an additional business selling UK farm machinery in France. There is a limit to what I am allowed to put through the farm’s books - hence new company.

If I am the responsable for the branch and I employ my wife, I have read that I would be regarded as expatriate and therefore subjected to UK social regime and not that of France, is this correct? Apart from the extra costs involved in the translation of documents it seems in our case the succursale to be a lot easier, quicker and vastly cheaper than the SARL option. And if we wanted additional protection of assets we could get a protection des biens drawn up at the notaire. Are we trying to be too clever?
