What cotisant solidaire is and what does it entitle me to?

I am a gardener and as such have registered with the Mutualité Sociale Agricole (MSA) as a micro regime business in France. I was originally advised, when I registered 18 months ago, to be a cotisant solidaire under MSA. This was because I was on low income, and could not register as an auto-entrepreneur. I have a social security number and carte vitale, but I don’t think that I pay any social charges, i.e. for unemployment, pension, etc.

Are you able to explain exactly what cotisant solidaire is and what it entitles me to. I’ve tried speaking with MSA but they don’t really make things clear. Would it be in my best interests to move from this to another regime and what additional costs would this incur?
